Description

These Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Sliders are a delicious and savory start to your morning, featuring layers of creamy cream cheese, scrambled eggs, flavorful breakfast sausage, and melted cheddar cheese on soft, sweet Hawaiian rolls. Finished with a buttery herb glaze and baked until golden, they're perfect for a crowd or a hearty family breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale

Slider Layers

  • 1 12-count package Hawaiian Rolls
  • 6 tablespoons cream cheese (plain or onion & chive)
  • 1/2 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • 1/3 cup diced red bell peppers (optional)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Cooking Essentials

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Butter Glaze

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley flakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F to prepare for baking the assembled sliders.
  2. Slice Rolls: Using a serrated knife, carefully slice through all 12 Hawaiian rolls horizontally, creating one large top bun layer and one large bottom bun layer without separating the individual rolls.
  3. Prepare Pan: Grease an 8x11-inch baking pan and place the bottom buns layer inside. If you don’t have an 8x11 pan, a 9x13-inch pan works as well.
  4. Spread Cream Cheese: Evenly spread the cream cheese over the bottom layer of buns to add a creamy base.
  5. Cook Sausage and Peppers: In a saucepan over medium heat, brown the ground breakfast sausage along with the diced red bell peppers until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat and set aside.
  6. Make Scrambled Eggs: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and black pepper until smooth. Heat a skillet with the vegetable oil over medium heat and cook the egg mixture, stirring occasionally, until softly scrambled.
  7. Assemble Layers: Sprinkle the cooked sausage and pepper mixture over the cream cheese–coated bottom buns. Next, add the scrambled eggs evenly on top, followed by a generous layer of shredded cheddar cheese.
  8. Add Top Buns: Place the top buns layer over the assembled fillings, completing the slider assembly.
  9. Prepare Butter Glaze: Melt the butter in a small microwave-safe bowl. Stir in the onion powder, black pepper, and dried parsley flakes until well combined.
  10. Brush Butter Mixture: Brush the butter glaze over the top of the buns, allowing it to soak in and add flavor and moisture.
  11. Bake Sliders: Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden brown.
  12. Serve: Remove from the oven, slice individual sliders apart, and serve warm for a satisfying breakfast treat.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add some diced jalapeños to the sausage mixture.
  • Substitute cream cheese with flavored varieties, like chive or garlic, for added taste.
  • Ensure the rolls are sliced carefully to avoid tearing and keep the toppings contained.
  • These sliders can be assembled the night before and baked fresh in the morning.
  • Use turkey sausage for a leaner option to reduce fat content.
